Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Relief efforts are underway to assist more than 430 families affected by a devastating fire at the Kenville Informal Settlement.
One person was killed in the blaze in the north of Durban at the weekend.
Land and new homes are some of the promises that have been made by local government officials, who visited a section of the informal settlement now reduced to ashes.
A pregnant woman was killed and hundreds of people left homeless in Sunday's blaze.
Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma and eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba announced a long-term plan to assist the victims.
Building material would be delivered before the end of the week.

Counselling and food vouchers have been arranged, while facilitators will get to work on providing education and essential health services.
The Gift of the Givers has come on board to provide relief aid in the form of blankets, mattresses and food.
The mayor's office will assist with funeral arrangements for the woman who died.
Officials believe the fire, suspected to have been caused by illegal connections, spread quickly due to inaccessibility, poor planning and unsuitable land.
They'll identify vacant land to build new homes for the community.
