Efforts to resolve KZN school's staff issues

Teachers' union SADTU says a team has been sent to the Mandlethu High School in eMawoti in northern KZN to try help resolve staff issues at the school.

Media reports suggest 45 of about 80 teachers have not reported for duty over the past few weeks.

It is believed that a battle for positions is causing the conflict.

The school's principal died last year, with his deputy appointed to the position.

SADTU's Bheki Shandu says the teachers have recently been reporting to the local circuit office instead.

''We will be meeting with the concerned parents over the weekend to try and find ways to ensure security for educators because some of them have chosen to not come to school because they are fearing for their lives,'' he said.

Reports say the Education Department is working on the issue.
