EFF stage walk out during eThekwini State of the City Address

EFF councillors have walked out of the State of the City Address at Durban City Hall - refusing to listen to Mayor Zandile Gumede's speech.

The councillors say they tried to raise a motion against the mayor - but the speaker wouldn't allow them to table it.
The party's leader in eThekwini - Bonginkosi Ngiba told reporters in the City Hall foyer that they've lost confidence in Gumede's ability to lead the municipality.
"We raised a motion yesterday to submit to the speaker regarding the issues in this metro. We raised our concerns as the EFF. We said we will no longer trust the mayor's leadership and we requested the mayor to step down," he said.

In the main auditorium, Gumede began her address by drawing on the memory of former President Nelson Mandela.
She says in marking 100 years since Madiba's birth - the city must work towards realising his vision of a unified and equal South Africa in which all people live in peace.
