EFF suspended from Parliament for five days

It's been business as usual in Parliament but not before EFF MPs fired the opening salvo ahead of the president's budget vote.

Disruptions and heated debates took centre stage again leading to EFF members being forcibly removed.

The party which's been suspended from Parliament for five working days had tried to bring a motion saying President Jacob Zuma has no place there.

Deputy Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli gave his verdict on MPs calling the president, "accused number one," and "a thief."

"If charges have not been put to that person then there would always be the possibility that these charges could either be dropped or not proceeded with.

"Only when charges are proceeded with and put to the person being charged does that person become accused in respect of the charges put. Honourable members, by using remarks that are inflammatory we are not advancing the case for reasoned and opened debate in a democratic society.

''I appeal to members to observe our rules and practises by not imputing improper references to the president as being accused number one,'' he said.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane's told MPs the country is going backwards under Zuma's reign, adding South Africans should not accept a Presidency budget when Zuma cannot take responsibility for his actions.

Maimane took some heated backlash during his address.

"When there was a failure to comply with the Public Protector's report - it wasn't me, when in fact a R4 billion luxury Presidential jet, it wasn't me. In fact the push to sign off on a trillion Rand nuclear deal - it wasn't me, in fact when the Gupta brothers were offering Cabinet posts - it wasn't me," he said.
