EFF must be held liable for damage to property in Parly brawl: Mthembu
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
The ANC in Parliament feels their EFF counterparts must be held criminally accountable for this week's brawl in the National Assembly.
The ruling party's chief whip Jackson Mthembu says they welcome Parliament's decision to press charges against EFF MP's for what he called blatant acts of violence and malicious damage to property.
"The EFF MPs both and individually and collectively must be made to criminally account before a court of law and hopefully prosecuted and lawfully punished for the disgraceful they unleashed in this parliament on Tuesday," he said.
Mthembu says footage from Parliament must be used as evidence in court.
"More worrying to us is how people who are alleged to be security of honourable Malema got into Parliament. We have since requested Parliament to do a thorough investigation on this security breach.
"We can't afford to risk the lives of our president, deputy president and all members of Parliament irrespective of which party they come from," he said.
He feels the EFF must foot the bill for the cost of repairing damages to the precinct.
