Speaking outside the Steve  Biko campus, Gazuzu Ntuli said they marched to Coastlands hotel in Musgrave because they had received information that higher education minister Blade Nzimande would be at the hotel.

"After what we have done today, we are going to residences, to continue to mobilize and make sure tomorrow we shut down, because the institution once we reopen tomorrow, we're hoping that many students are going to distance themselves from the strike; so we want to make sure that every student is part and parcel [of this]," he said.

Ntuli says they want answers from minister Nzimande.

"We want there to try and get answers from the minister as to when he's going to declare free education, because the meeting was scheduled to sit here at DUT, and he has moved the meeting to Coastlands Musgrave thinking that we can't get there. And that's why we went there, because this is the second time now it's happening. He was supposed to come earlier on - three weeks ago - he then changed the venue again to another hotel far away from campus. We're saying the minister must be student orientated," he said.

Ntuli and a group of other students have returned to campus after trying .
