A political analyst has described the EFF's election manifesto as ambitious.

On Saturday, the red berets revealed what their aims would be should they be voted into power later this year.

Addressing supporters at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, party leader Julius Malema said they would give people land and jobs and bring an end to the shedding.

UKZN-based analyst Belinda Johnson believes the party has made some bold promises.

"It’s a bold move for a party that has not yet been in power. From a political strategy point of view, a lot of new parties might choose to highlight one area that they would promise to address immediately within the first term of office. This is done with the campaign message: that this is to establish the party's track record for getting things done as promised."

Johnson says sorting out the country's most pressing issues is a big task:

"South Africa is at the top of world unemployment, which stands at 31.9%, second highest rate of unemployment globally, which is currently at 58%. Stage 6 load shedding looks like it’s going to be a frequent occurrence. No real resolution is coming in the foreseeable future from what I can see.

“Land reform and the issue of land are issues that haven't been addressed sufficiently in 30 years. So, these are bold goals for a relatively young political party. To be fair, their confidence might not be misplaced."
