EFF demands resignation of eThekwini mayor as council sitting collapses
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The EFF in KZN is demanding the immediate resignation of Thekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.
The party's demands led to a total collapse of a council sitting on Thursday.
It says the mayor is seemingly unable to cope with issues such as the city's E.coli infested beaches and the housing of victims of the April floods.
The EFF's Nkululeko Ngubane says while the mayor looks forward to a pleasant Christmas, it will be a festive season to forget for many eThekwini residents.
"The mayor and his executive openly ignored advice from scientists who did not yet say let us close some of these beaches until it’s safe to do so.
“But more importantly, we want to raise the issue of flood victims. There is no council sitting taking place until the mayor commits that these beaches are safe, and close those that are not safe. Also flood victims are going to be given respectable homes."
Council is expected to sit again next week Tuesday.
