Education Dept, teachers unions to meet to discuss national assessments

Officials from the Basic Education Department are expected to meet with teacher unions this afternoon - to discuss its proposal to continue with the Annual National Assessments.

This is according to National Teachers' Union spokesperson Allen Thompson - who says the union is today hosting a policy conference in uLundi.


Thompson says issues that will be on the agenda include the ANAs - as well as the increase in the number of teachers resigning in order to access their provident funds.


"The National Teachers Union is supporting that we need to remodel the national assessment and come up with something that will improve our education system," he said.


Thompson added that the objective of today's meeting is to make a formal pronouncement on what the ANAs will look like - going forward.
