East Coast Radio management has reiterated that it's working closely with Durban police to establish exactly what happened at People's Park last night, after a 19-year-old Durban man was stabbed to death.
Full details around the horrific tragedy at East Coast Radio's Durban Day event are still not clear, however eyewitnesses say the young man was killed towards the end of the music event.
The station's General Manager, Boni Mchunu says they're shocked and saddened by what has happened adding that their deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of this young man.
She's also addressed concerns that the event was overcrowded.
Mchunu's stressed that ticket sales are guided by the eThekwini Municipality and safety officers. She says the venue has the capacity to accommodate 18 000 people. 16 500 tickets were sold for Durban Day.
"As the East Coast Radio team and the event organising team we decided to only sell 16 500 tickets. So we were way below the capacity of the venue.
"A lot of people are involved in events of this magnitude and so the city was involved, the safety officers were involved.
"As East Coast Really we really are obsessed with the safety of people visiting our events and honestly we are gutted and devastated [by what has happened]," she said live on air during East Coast Breakfast.
Police say no arrests have been made yet.
