Economy 'in good hands' following Finance Minister appointment: expert
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
An economist is confident that the country's economy is in good hands after the appointment of Tito Mboweni as Finance Minister.
Mboweni replaces Nhlanhla Nene who resigned from the post yesterday in the wake of his testimony at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.
Nene told the commission that he had met the controversial Gupta family at their home on several occasions. Economist, Dawie Roodt feels Mboweni is a good replacement.
"In a way, he's an outsider. So that the possibility that he has been tainted by so-called state capture is simply not there. That is certainly a positive. Secondly, he has good experience as the governor of the Reserve Bank, in finance and the financial markets," Dawie said.
