Economist: Coronavirus could drag SA's economy even lower

With our economy in the grip of a technical recession, there are fears there's more bad news to come, and they're not over money worries alone but the coronavirus.
Stats SA says our economy shrunk by 1.4% in the last quarter of 2019, after contracting in the third quarter.

Economist, Dawie Roodt says it's no surprise considering the instability of SOEs like Eskom and disappointing unemployment figures.
"I think the chances are even better now that we are going to see a downgrade, and on top of all of that we have this coronavirus that is always going to weigh on the economic performance."
"The reality is, the South African economy is in very deep trouble, and at this rate, unemployment and poverty levels are likely to go up," he says.
