Easter death toll increases by 14%

Road accidents over the Easter break have claimed the lives of 510 people in the country.
That is an increase of 14 percent from last year's total death toll of 449 over the same period.
KwaZulu-Natal recorded the highest number of deaths at 111.

Releasing the Easter Safety Report in Cape Town, Transport Minister Blade Nzimande said 430 vehicles were involved in fatal crashes this year, compared to 349 in 2017.
"Preliminary reports show that the main contributory factors to road fatalities are related to human behaviour with male drivers accounting for 71,1% of fatalities," Nzimande said.
