On duty police officer dies from heart attack
KZN’s men and women in blue are in shock after a Phoenix officer died while trying to arrest an alleged drunken driver.
Police say Warrant Officer Lucas Kumkarran had been on duty at the corner of Palmview Drive and Sastri Park Drive in Phoenix on Friday night when tragedy struck. It's suspected Kumkarran suffered a heart attack.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says he passed away on scene.
"We have opened a case of an inquest for further investigation but we are still waiting for the postmortem results that will tell us exactly what happened," he said.
