A Durban University of Technology student has died after he was fatally stabbed by another at a student residence in the Durban CBD.

The university confirmed the incident took place at Sterling House Residence on Thursday afternoon.
It is alleged that the students were fighting in a room when one of the students was stabbed during an altercation.
Although the 2021 academic year has not started yet, DUT says the only students allowed back on campus and residences are those needing to complete their practical assessments and laboratory work from last year.

“A 19-year-old male was stabbed to death by a known suspect while at a student residence. The victim sustained a stab wound on the left side of his neck and was declared dead by paramedics on the scene,” Gwala said.
“The suspect fled the scene after the incident and is still being sought by police,” Gwala added.
