A Durban University of Technology student who was arrested for public violence during fees protests at the institution last month, has been denied bail.
Twenty-six year old Bonginkosi Khanyile was denied bail by Magistrate Jackie Jonker in the Durban Magistrate's Court, this morning.
The final year Public Management student was arrested on September 27, during protests linked to the Fees Must Fall movement at DUT.

Delivering her judgement, Magistrate Joncke said despite arguments by the defense that Khanyile would adhere to bail conditions imposed, she was of the view that it was highly probable he would commit a similar offence if released on bail.
She said Khanyile was arrested in February this year on similar charges and was released on warning with strict conditions; yet he found himself in the same position seven months later.
Joncke took into consideration that Khanyile is in his final year and on a full scholarship, and will not be able to complete the academic year. However, she said any prejudices he faces are a result of his own decisions and actions.
