DUT: Security upgrades to the tune of R30 million have been approved

Security is being beefed up on the Durban University of Technology's campuses following attacks on staff and students, one of which claimed the life of 18-year-old, Sandile Ndlovu.
On Wednesday, management briefed the media on the varsity's new security measures saying upgrades to the tune of R30 million have been approved.
Students led protests calling for answers and demanding more protection after the deadly stabbing of Ndlovu, who was attacked and robbed while studying in a lecture hall two weeks ago.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Isaac Machi says access to the institution is being closely monitored and controlled.
"People [are] now being requested to produce identification documents, be it staff, students or visitors. In fact, some of our own staff members are being turned back if they did not produce those documents, that's how strict the security measures are," he said.
