DUT activists demand release of student leader

Fees Must Fall activists at the Durban University of Technology believe the arrest of fellow student, Bonginkosi Khanyile, is unlawful.
Khanyile is currently in custody after the Durban Magistrates Court denied him bail. He was arrested in September during protests at DUT.

The charges against him include convening an illegal gathering, possession of a dangerous weapon, and public violence.
Briefing the media in Durban this afternoon - activist Gazuzu Nduliaccused the state of using tactics of the apartheid regime.
"We see people accused of worse crimes being granted bail in this country. This is uncalled for. Murderers, rapists are granted bail - yet Bonginkosi Khanyile isn't. We call for the immediate release of our fellow student. He must be allowed to spend quality time with his family - because he has not committed any crime," he said.
