KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu established the Special Reference Group on Migration and Community Integration to understand the causes and consequences of the violence in the province in an effort to prevent similar incidents in future.

At least seven people were killed in xenophobic attacks which started in KZN and spread to other parts of the country.

The group, chaired by former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Judge Navi Pillay, says its travelled the length and breadth of the province trying to get to the bottom of the matter.

The group say they've interacted with over 50 stakeholders, including affected foreign nationals and their representatives, faith-based organisations and government departments.

It also says members of the public has been active in the process with nearly 100 hundred written submissions made since May on the matter.

The group is expected to submit its final report to the Premier by end of next month.
