Florence Ndlazi says she had been communicating with her employer via whatsapp explaining to them why she would be late for work when police accused her of taking photos of them.

She and a group of eight other men were arrested for public violence by members of the Public Order Police.

Ndlazi says she was on her way to work and was not taking part in the protest.

"The policeman asked me why am I taking photos of them. I handed my phone over to show him that there were no photos of them. He took my phone and then he called the other police over to arrest me along with a group of men," she said.

Ndlazi spent Monday night in the police holding cells of the Sydenham Police Station. She appeared in the Durban Magistrates' Court yesterday but was released afterwards.

In an e-mail to Newswatch, police would only confirm Ndlazi's arrest.
