He says of the 199 South Africans living there 132 have been under lockdown conditions and had expressed the desire to return home.

The evacuees will be under quarantine for 21 days once back in the country as a precautionary measure.

Durbanite, Joss Potgieter has been teaching in Wuhan.

She says they do not have further information on the quarantine processes but feels 21 days of isolation is a fair period of time.

"There are a lot of factors to consider. We do not want anyone in South Africa possibly getting the virus although we know that none of us have had any symptoms," said Potgieter.

She said the South Africans in Wuhan are willing to work with the government and conform to the process to ensure that everybody is safe.

"Concerning the quarantine, we do not have any information but that's not going to be a big deal for us because most of us teach online. We are teachers and we do need to still be able to work remotely. So the type of conditions during the quarantine process is very important for us," she added.

The Presidency's spokesperson Khusela Diko has stressed none among the group have shown signs of infection. She added that none of these individuals have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and that they have also not exhibited any symptoms of the virus.

The virus has claimed several lives while over eighty-three thousand are infected globally.
