Durban teacher faces statutory rape charge
KZN Education officials say they are trying to establish if any more schoolgirls could have been victims of sexual assault following the arrest of a Durban teacher - who was allegedly in a physical relationship with a learner.
The 33-year-old teacher, also accused of sending explicit images and videos to a child, has been arrested and is facing a charge of statutory rape.
Head of Department, Enoch Nzama visited the school in the Sydenham area yesterday.
Meanwhile, the father of the 14-year-old girl says he wants to make sure that not another learner at the school falls prey to something like this.
"There are all these innocent girls in pictures he was posting with him placing his arm around them and hugging them. I thought that it was sick - I stopped it just in time. On April 30, he asked her to come to this place for a rehearsal. He premeditated what he was going to do in that chat," he said.
