KZN Education Department has ordered a Durban school to reverse its decision to chase away pupils who owe fees.
The department has condemned the actions of Overport Secondary School saying no principal is allowed to send pupils packing over unpaid fees.
The school has been advised to hold discussions with parents and arrange so that fees can be paid without pupils being chased away.
The department's Sicelo Khuzwayo says the decision is unlawfu.
"The learners that were turned back on Tuesday and Wednesday. Plans are [being put] in place to make sure that we compensate for the time lost," he said.
