This warning applies to those who use the two rivers recreationally for sports such as canoeing.

eThekwini Municipality's Tozi Mthethwa says while repairs were being done - a blockage occurred in the drainage line of the Blair Road Sewage Pump Station.

She says this led to flooding in the pump station which in turn resulted in effluent being released into the Palmiet River.

"The municipality is working hard to ensure that we can minimise the impact of this so that people are able to go back and use the water.

"The small pumps which were flooded at the station are undergoing repairs and we are expecting this work to be completed by June 2. From that point onwards then we should be good to go," she said.
