Durban residents march over poor service delivery
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Disgruntled residents in eThekwini's northern areas have given the municipality and COGTA seven days to respond to their grievances over poor service delivery.
Communities in and around Tongaat, Verulam and Phoenix have staged protests in recent months, to demand uninterrupted access to water and power.
Residents marched to the Durban City Hall on Thursday, together with representatives of the South African Human Rights Commission.
Tanya Giyapersad the vice-chairperson the Tongaat Civic Association says they submitted a list of demands.
Some residents have been without water for over 200 days.
"We have tried everything that we possibly could to negotiate with the municipality. We have engaged with the human rights commission."
She says they plan to keep up the pressure on the municipality.
"You often hear of these sporadic protests that rise up and die down. This is not one of those protests. This is a protest action that is going to gather momentum. Residents are fed up and they are frustrated."
