Durban reacts to WHO report on processed meat

It seems Durbanites are not going to be giving up on some of their favourite food items just yet despite the World Health Organisation saying processed meat products like bacon, sausages and ham can cause cancer.

A recent report says 50g or just less than two slices of bacon a day could increase the chances of developing some cancers by 18%.

While some shoppers say they will continue to eat the products, others have told Newswatch they will now do so in moderation.

"I'm actually alarmed and quite shocked because everything that you buy in the supermarket is processed meats. So what do I do now. I've been eating processed meats for the last 20 to 30 years. So, do I stop eating it?" One man asked.

Another consumer said she is not likely to stop now.

"I'd probably carry on eating it," she said.
