Durban prioritises safety during festive season
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
An additional 113 seasonal lifeguards have been deployed to various Durban beaches to monitor the influx of holidaymakers expected to visit the city's coastline.

The municipality expects 1.4-million domestic and international tourists to flock to Durban this festive season, adding that it is ready for the holidays.
Currently 500 metro police officers are patrolling Durban's CBD.
The eThekwini Municipality says this figure will be increased by 200 on busier days such as the Day of Reconciliation on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa says a larger influx of visitors to shopping complexes, night clubs and beaches is common on busy days.
The city has also procured 90 000 wrist bands which are to be worn by children on our beaches, thus addressing problems with lost children.
Some roads leading into Durban's beaches will be managed through boom-gate controls, while others will be closed.
Only those with permits on peak days such as Wednesday, will be able to access the boom-gate controlled roads.
