Durban Metro Cop shot during M25 protest

A local Durban Metro policeman is receiving treatment in hospital after being shot in the leg during a violent protest this morning.
The officer was allegedly shot by a demonstrator while police and community members faced off in Bhambayi, near Phoenix north of Durban.
Authorities are on scene and monitoring the situation.
Zwane says SAPS and Durban Metro Police officers are at the scene.
Hundreds of disgruntled residents protested along the M25, burning tyres and throwing stones at passing motorists.

SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane is urging motorists to practice caution if they are using the route.

"A case of public violence as well as attempted murder has been opened at Inanda Police Station for further investigation," he said.Zwane says SAPS and Durban Metro Police officers are at the scene.
"They are still trying to disperse the crowd," he said.
