A Durban policeman is among those killed in this morning's brazen robbery at the Checkstar Supermarket, in the city's CBD.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane has confirmed that a policeman linked to the Durban Flying Squad was shot and killed during an exchange of fire with the suspects.
He says the robbers targeted the business in Victoria Street, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers.
"The driver of the suspected vehicle lost control and overturned. When the members approached the vehicle they found two bodies. Two suspects were shot and killed, and the other two were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment. The members found two fireams in the said vehicle, as well as the cash," he said.
