Political parties have been reacting to yesterday's tragedy at a children's home in Durban where a fire killed eight children.
The fire at the Lakehaven Child and Youth Care Centre in Sea Cow Lake broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Eight other children and two caregivers survived the blaze.
The ANC's Sihle Zikalala says people should refrain from speculating about what caused the fire as investigations are ongoing.
"The situation is quite traumatic, it is challenging and painful. We are hopeful that with time they will recover," he said.
DA's Social Development spokesperson Dr Rishigen Viranna says government should act to stop such an incident from happening again..
"We call on the MEC of Social Development to make available as much resources as possible as well as to co-operate with this investigation into the blaze," she said.
IFP's Ncamisile Nkwanyana says she hopes for a thorough investigation.
"There must be precautionary measures that must be taken in order to prevent. And they must find the cause of the fire," she said.
