Durban, Ilemebe residents warned of water cuts
Updated | By Newswatch
Residents in the north of Durban and parts of Ilembe should prepare to have no water on Tuesday.
Umgeni Water says there's been a major power supply failure at the Hazelmere Water Treatment Plant.
Spokesperson Shami Harichunder says it supplies water to many areas including Verulam, Waterloo and Ballito.
"The situation has resulted in Umgeni Water reservoirs not depleting quite rapidly. Umgeni Water isn't unable to extract water from Hazelmere Dam and pump it to the water treatment plant.

"We expect that by this evening [Monday] the reservoirs of Umgeni Water will run dry and we will not be able to supply to eThekwini, Ilembe, Ziza water. We expect all of tomorrow [Tuesday] as well."
Harichunder says eThekwini's electricity department says its teams expect to have the problem fixed on Wednesday.
He has reminded consumers that it takes some time for the reservoirs to fill up once supply has been restored.
