Durban medic remembered as selfless family man
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The family of Durban paramedic Vicky Govender has described him as a selfless man. Govender died in hospital yesterday following severe storms in Durban on Tuesday.
He was critically injured while responding to a crash on the N2 during the deluge.
The ambulance Govender and his colleague at ER24, Tracy Bederson had been travelling in, rolled several times on the flooded freeway.
They’d been making their way to the scene of an accident at the time.

"He touched people in so many ways. He was a real hero. He was a family man and a community man. He didn't just care about his immediate family but about anyone who needed anything," she says.
Naidoo’s has also thanked the community for coming out in full support of the family.
"If you have think about everyone that have been here. We've heard many stories about how he came to their rescue, she says.
