Durban man guilty of former partner's murder

A Durban man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in the parking lot of Musgrave Centre has been found guilty in the Durban High Court.
Sixty-year-old Sipho Zikhali was arrested shortly after Ke Rita Sibisi's murder two years ago.
The court had heard Zikhali had suspected Sibisi had been in a new relationship.
In handing down judgement today, Judge Siphokazi Jikela said the evidence against Zikhali was extremely incriminating.
Jikela said with the evidence before the court - and the fact that Sibisi had obtained a protection order against Zikhali - there could be no one else behind Sibisi's murder.
Jikela quoted extensively from Sibisi’s statement in the protection order - which states that two months before the murder - Zikhali had showed up at her place of work and and demanded that she leave with him.
On the day of the murder - it's believed Sibisi talked with Zikhali in her car in the shopping centre parking lot.
Zikhali later took out a knife and stabbed her.
He then fled in his vehicle. The murder weapon has never been found.
Jikela acquitted Zikhali of a theft count - saying that the state failed to prove that he took Sibisi’s bag.
