KZN Hawks officials nabbed Francis Muleso at the OR Tambo International Airport in Gauteng this week.

It's after he went on the run after a court appearance last year.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says the 43-year-old was hired to do efiling for a company.

Mhlongo says he allegedly claimed for VAT which SARS soon found did not reflect the true income-of the business.

Muleso appeared in the Durban Magistrate Court this week.

"Furthermore, they allegedly submitted more than one return for the same period with substantially different declarations in order to evade tax. As a result the South African Revenue Service suffered a prejudice to the value of approximately R13,832,865.20

"A case of fraud was reported at Point police station and the case docket was allocated to the Hawks members for further investigation. Muleso was arrested in October last year and appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court.

"He was released on warning to reappear in the same court in February this year. Muleso failed to do so and a warrant of arrest was issued. He was circulated as a wanteperson hence he was arrested and transported back to Durban. He appeared in court yesterday and the case was postponed to 5 April 2024."
