Bilal Mahomed, the owner of Mahomed Jewellers & Watchmakers at Southway Mall in Rossburgh, says the robbers fled with watches and silver jewellery on Tuesday night.

"It was a group of seven or eight men and they came in very quickly. They got in through the door and within a minute and a half, they were out of there before the armed response could even get there, they were out. So, they worked very fast," he said.

Enforce Security who provides security services to the centre confirmed the robbery. Mahomed says he's never experienced such an incident in 25 years of business. He says the robbers smashed the display cabinets to access the watches and jewellery.

"They kicked a lot of the glass - to keep their fingerprints off the glass. I did see that they seemed to have used some sort of spanner or crowbar. They managed to take a few watches and some silver jewellery as well," he said.

Mahomed says the manner in which thieves are hitting jewellery and cellphone stores has gotten out of hand. A watch store at Musgrave Centre and a jewellery store at Westwood Mall were also robbed yesterday.
