The lights have switched off north of the city - that's in Phoenix, and Umhlanga.

Areas inner west of the city - Pinetown, Westville, Hillcrest and Kloof - have been affected while Umbilo, Merebank and Rossburgh on the south have been left in the dark.

There are reports of a failed transformer at the Klaarwater power station, which supplies the eThekwini municipality.

The eThekwini Municipality is yet to confirm the cause of the outage. They say technicians are investigating.
