There's been public concern over the state of the harbour.

Last week, it was littered with waste following the storm.

"Everything goes through the harbour and comes from rivers and canals," says Desmond D'sa, who is from the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance.

"I think the city, is not working closely with Transnet to ensure that they take care of their side and that Transnet can take care of their side.

"This is crazy that this continues to happen in a city that is a tourist city. When they tourist comes, they see all that. The problem is that resources is not being set aside to ensure that our city is kept clean."

The Transnet National Ports Authority says to ensure the safe navigation of vessels in and out of the port, its pollution management team is clearing debris that has flown into the port from nearby channels.

It says the Port of Durban experienced no infrastructure damage.

But shipping movements were temporarily impacted by the storm.
