Durban harbour 'a major entry point for drugs'
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
While Durban is not a major producer of illegal drugs, it has been identified as a preferred transport point.
This emerged at an anti-drug conference at the Durban ICC yesterday.
Police Minister Nathi Nhleko was among those who attended the Russia-Africa Anti-Drug Conference.
His spokesperson Musa Zondi says the gathering was held between delegates from the two countries as they're both part of BRICS and face similar problems.
Zondi says Durban's harbour has been identified as a major entry point for drugs destined for the country, continent and the rest of the world.
"We know that very well that Durban is one of those - there are strategies in place. Some of them to ensure that all the areas that have a specific problem are addressed accordingly," he said.
