Durban fire tragedy: 'Proactive safety measures needed'
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal is urging government to do more to improve household safety and fire prevention.

The party has been commenting after three children were killed in a blaze at an informal settlement in Wyebank at the weekend.
Six-year-old twins, Snegugu and Snehlanhla Mtolo and their two-year-old sister, Esihle were locked inside their home and left alone when the fire broke out.
The IFP's Thokozile Gumede claims government should shoulder some of the blame - saying it is often to reactionary and not proactive enough.

The children's mother is facing charges of child neglect.
Gumede says while she had a responsibility to keep her children safe - taking action against the mother will do little to help the situation.
"If you neglect your child, you go against nature. I do not think we should be laying charges because laying charges against her now will be tantamount to killing her," she said.
