The
National Sea Rescue Institute has reiterated the importance of water safety
awareness for bathers after a tragic double-drowning incident in Durban.
Two girls, aged five and nine years, lost their lives, while they were swimming in a pool at a South Beach hotel.
Medics say the children had gone into cardiac arrest and despite extensive resuscitation efforts they passed away.

"We are appealing to bathers to only swim at beaches protected by lifeguards, obey the lifeguard's instructions and only swim where they post the safety marks for swimming areas, using their red and yellow flags.
“Children should have responsible adult supervision when it swimming at swimming pools inland, waterways, beaches and lagoons."
