Durban court shooting 'an eye-opener', more security needed: Magistrate
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
Chief Magistrate, Edmund Ngubane, says there isn't enough security at the Durban Magistrate's Court.

Ngubane addressed the media yesterday following last week's shooting there which claimed three lives.
Deputy Minister of Justice, John Jeffery, was also there. He visited with staff and announced a ban on firearms at the courthouse.
Ngubane says they're also looking at beefing up security.
"We don't have enough security officials. But at the moment, the regional office is looking at that and they are going to increase the number of security officers," Ngubane said.

Ngubane says the courts need their own security detail.
"We don't want to only rely on court orders. We should also have extra security officers moving around the court to prevent any occurrence. It was an eye-opener in respect of the security officers," he said.
