Thirty-one-year-old Ruvanya Ramiah and 32-year-old Ayush Rambally were charged with over 400 counts of fraud and theft.

Ramiah told the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court that she was employed as the finance officer at the society between March 2012 to February 2019.

The court heard she inflated her salary, and sometimes paid herself more than three times a month.

She's also admitted creating false payments to suppliers and fabricating evidence to support the payments.

The money was being channelled into her bank account and that of her husband, Rambally.

KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says the pair pleaded guilty on Wednesday.

"Rambally said during his plea, that he took the money knowing very well that he was not entitled to it, as he was neither an employee nor a creditor of the society.

"The matter was remanded to 4 August 2022, for pre-sentencing and correctional supervision reports."
