Police say he and a passenger were shot at while driving on Landsdown Road.

His companion is also receiving treatment in hospital.

Fellow comedian Carvin Goldstone - who's described Hughes as a peacemaker - says he's disturbed by the news..

"If you ever have to interact with Andrew you will know he is harmless, super friendly, very accommodating, and thoughtful. So it was a huge shock and disappointment that he was in this type of situation," said Goldstone.

Goldstone says Hughes is doing okay and in stable condition but hopes and prays his friend continues to improve.

Hughes captured his audience with funny comedy skits on Facebook.

Goldstone said to hear he was involved in this shooting was terrible and heartbreaking.

"He is well-liked amongst his friends, peers, and the general public. He is very popular, which shows in his growing online presence."

"We wish him a speedy recovery because he has fans all over the world."

"They are waiting for him to come back to tell his story because we know his ability to make humor out of pain is a unique quality," he added.

Police are investigating an attempted murder case.
