Durban child porn suspect granted bail

A 29-year-old man has been granted bail after appearing in the Durban Magistrate's Court today, charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

The man was arrested in Berea yesterday by members of the police's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Police say a team investigating online sexual exploitation of minors received a tip-off from their counterparts in the United States about the suspect's alleged activity involving an American minor.
The man is said to be one of three men from South Africa who have been apparently soliciting sexually explicit images from the 13-year-old girl from Virginia.
The police's Vishnu Naidoo says a mobile app called KIK was used for the exchange.
"When the team visited and searched the suspect's residence at a block of flats, they found and seized six hard drives, six cellular phones, a USB, 22 DVDs and CDs and a 3G card," he said.
The case has been postponed to early next year.
