Fire officials have contained a fire that broke out at a building in the Durban CDB.

At least 18 people have sustained smoke inhalation type injuries after the fire broke out on the third floor of the City Life building in Anton Lembede Street.
It's not yet known what sparked the blaze. Rescue Care paramedics say the injured were treated on scene and have since been taken to hospital.

Durban Metro's Aiden Naidoo has urged motorists to use alternate routes as Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street and Anton Lembede Street have been affected.
"There's a building on Smith Street alight so all traffic travelling Smith has been diverted onto Broad Street and onto Victoria Embankment," he said.
