Durban briefing on impact of visa rules
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
One of the regulations requires that when a company applies for a business visa, 60% of the staff must be South African citizens or permanent residents.
Home Affairs Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan says allowing unrestricted access into South Africa, has added to the country's social problems.
Chohan has again emphasised that the new regulations will not only protect the country from security threats but also address unemployment.
While members of the tourism industry are worried about the decline in numbers since the new rules came into effect, Home Affairs insists the regulations also aim to facilitate and boost trade while addressing issues not accommodated by the old immigration laws.
