Romario Valentine who is turning nine on Saturday had hoped to raise R15 000.
He's exceeded that amount. The fund now has over R19 000.
He says the Bird Park is where he'd planned to spend his birthday.
"I wanted to spend my birthday at the bird park, but it has been closed, because of the lockdown.
"There are no visitors now, so I decided to raise money for their conservation programm," he says.
Romario worries that without being exposed to birds, children like him won't be able to learn about them and nature.
"I hope my campaign can inspire children to cherish and protect nature for our future and generations to come," he says.
