Durban boy electrocuted to death while swimming in river

An inquest docket has been opened after a nine-year-old boy was electrocuted while swimming in the Umbilo River near Sea View - south of Durban.

The child is said to have stepped on a live wire under water while out at the river with friends yesterday.
His friends ran to get help.

Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says rescue teams were called to the scene to recover the body.
"The body was found lying in the river canal and the circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated."
Gwala says officials have returned to the scene to remove the wires.
