Due to high seas forecasted for this weekend, eThekwini Municipality has taken the decision to temporarily close the Country Club and Thekwini beaches.

Durban beaches closed due to massive waves

This decision was taken after careful deliberation with the South African Weather Bureau and the Sharks Board.

The closure entails the lifting of shark nets at the two beaches.

Please note that all other beaches will remain open for the Four Element Ocean challenge, an open water swim challenge, which will commence on Saturday, 13 May at 7:30am and will continue until Sunday, 14 May.

The public will be notified once the two beaches have been re-opened. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
