The body of Lieutenant Colonel Sikhetho Mawila was found in the Tsakane township in Gauteng on Monday.

Hawk's spokesperson, Philane Nkwalase, says Mawila's family last spoke to him on Saturday before he left his home in the township to travel to Durban for work.

"The member informed the family before embarking on the journey that he would pass by a filling station in Heidelberg to fill up petrol before embarking on his way to Durban.”

"The family became concerned when they were not able to reach him on both his private and official cell phone. They later reported him as a missing person."
